Signal Design for Ultra-Wideband Radar and Wireless Communications
نویسنده
چکیده
The emerging ultra-wideband technology is in demand of extensive theoretical as well as experimental research to advance the implementation and commercial use of its numerous applications. Impulse-type signals are characterized by an ultra-wide frequency bandwidth that is desirable for the applications of high-resolution radar and wireless communications. In this paper, a signal model referred to as the generalized Gaussian pulse is derived for the analytical representation of electromagnetic impulses used in the experimentation of ultra-wideband technology. The signal characteristics of the generalized Gaussian pulse are analyzed. Computer plots of the time variation, autocorrelation function, and energy spectral density are also presented. The structure of a spread-spectrum signal for the ultra-wideband impulse technology is described too. Key-Words:-Ultra-widband signals, impulse waveforms, impulse radar, signal design

The rapid development in wireless communications has demanded multiband or wideband antennas to support wireless communication devices such as smart phones, tablets, laptop computers, radar system, satellite communication, airplane, and unmanned airborne vehicle (UAV) radar. It has also demanded compact wireless devices that allow more space to integrate other electronic components. The aim of ...
متن کاملUltra-Wideband Channel Modeling using Singularity Expansion Method
Ultra-wideband (UWB) communications is expected to revolutionize high data-rate, shortdistance wireless communications, providing data-rates in excess of 100 Mbps. However, the wireless channel distorts the transmitted signal by dispersing the signal energy over time. This degrades the output signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of a correlation based matched-filter receiver, limiting the achievable dat...

Today’s data rates in wired networks can reach 100 Gbit/s using optical fiber while data rates in wireless networks are much lower tens of Mbit/s for 3G mobile communication and 480 Mbit/s for ultra-wideband (UWB) short range wireless communications. This difference in data rates can mainly be explained by the limited allowed frequency spectrum, the nature of the radio signal and the high requi...

On February 14, 2002, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) of the United States adopted the First Report and Order that permitted the commercial operation of ultra wideband (UWB) technology (FCC, 2002). The FCC allocated a bandwidth of 7.5GHz, i.e. from 3.1GHz to 10.6GHz, to unlicensed use for UWB applications. Ultra Wideband is defined as any communication technology that occupies great...
